XgenPlus Mail connector (MCP) for chat

The XgenPlus Mail connector lets a ZenithAI chat read your XgenPlus mailbox, so you can use AI on your email, contacts and calendar without copying anything into the chat. It follows the MCP (Model Context Protocol) standard for connecting an AI assistant to a service, and it runs on your organisation’s own ZenithAI server. You connect once, attach XgenPlus Mail to a chat, and ask in plain words: what did the finance team send me this week, what is on my calendar tomorrow, find the email with the quotation from Sharma Traders.

In ZenithAI chat the connector is read only. It reads mail, contacts and calendar when you ask, and it never sends, drafts, moves, marks or deletes anything.

You need three things:

  1. An XgenPlus mailbox.
  2. An agent password for it, made in XgenPlus Webmail. The agent is a separate sign-in for an AI assistant, with its own permissions. It never reveals your mailbox password, and you can pause or delete it at any time.
  3. Your administrator has switched on XgenPlus Mail for ZenithAI (see For administrators).

In XgenPlus Webmail, open Settings › Security › AI Agents (MCP) and choose Create agent password. For this connector, tick at least Login, Search email and Read email. List folders helps when you ask about a folder. Ticking Send & Save or Save to Drafts does not let ZenithAI send or draft, because chat only reads.

XgenPlus Webmail shows a ready-made token for the agent. Copy it from there. More about agent passwords is on the developer pages at docs.xgenplus.com (Developers, AI agents).

  1. Click Settings and choose MCP Connectors. The item appears only when your administrator has switched the connector on for you.
  2. On the XgenPlus Mail card, paste the token you copied from Webmail into Token and click Connect. You paste the token as it is. The mailbox does not have to be the one you sign in to ZenithAI with.
  3. ZenithAI signs in to XgenPlus and asks the mailbox which account and permissions the agent has. If the account it reports is not the email inside your token, the connection is refused.
  4. The card now shows your Account. Click Test to check the connection at any time.

Other buttons on the card:

Button What it does
Test Checks that the sign-in still works
Change token Opens the token field again. Paste the new token and click Save token
Disconnect Deletes the stored token and your tool settings from ZenithAI
View permissions and tools Shows the agent’s permissions and the tools, each with a switch

After several failed sign-ins in a short time ZenithAI stops trying and tells you how many minutes to wait, up to 15. That protects the mailbox from a wrong token being tried again and again.

View permissions and tools lists the permissions XgenPlus gave the agent, and the tools ZenithAI can offer the chat. Tools are grouped as Mail, Contacts, Calendar & tasks and Domain admin. Each has a switch.

  • A tool the agent’s permissions do not allow is greyed out with the reason. When a whole group is not allowed, the group shows as one line with the reason.
  • The most useful tools start switched on. Others, such as listing every contact or reading an attachment, start off. You can switch them on.
  • Each tool is marked Read, Write or Destructive. Only read tools run in a chat. The tools that could send or change mail are listed, but ZenithAI does not offer them to the chat, even if they are on.
  • If XgenPlus adds a tool or changes one you accepted, it is marked New or Changed and stays off until you click Accept changes. Then switch on the ones you want.
  • At most 60 tools can be on at once, across all connectors. Past that, switch another tool off first.
  • Refresh reads the tool list from XgenPlus again.

Permission changes you make in XgenPlus Webmail reach ZenithAI within a minute or so. You do not need to reconnect.

  1. In a chat, click the attach button and choose XgenPlus Mail. A chip with its name appears above the message box. Click × on the chip to detach it.
  2. Ask your question. A card in the answer shows each tool the chat used, and whether it worked.
  3. The connector stays attached to that chat until you remove it.

While XgenPlus Mail is attached:

  • The chat answers with Smart or Genius. A chat on a lower tier answers on Smart for these messages, and a note under the answer says so.
  • Web search is off for these messages.
  • A message with attached files does not use the connector. A note says XgenPlus Mail was not used for this message because it has attached files. Send the question without the file.
  • The Workspace picker is hidden. If you already chose a workspace, XgenPlus Mail is greyed out with Choose No workspace to use mail.
  • If the chat holds private documents, turn on Internet for the chat’s private documents first. The menu says so.
  • Suggested follow-up questions only offer what the connected tools can really do.

If the attach menu shows XgenPlus Mail greyed out, the line under its name gives the reason, for example Connect XgenPlus Mail in Settings first. or No read tools of XgenPlus Mail are on. Check them in Settings.

You ask The chat uses
How many unread emails do I have? Summarise today’s inbox. Inbox summary, list messages
Find the email from the bank about the loan. Search mail (sender, recipients and subject)
Read the last message from Priya and tell me what she needs. Read a message, read a conversation
Who do I email most often? What is Mr Kapoor’s phone number? Frequent contacts, search contacts, view a contact
What is on my calendar tomorrow? When am I free on Thursday? Agenda, list events, find free time
Do I have any meeting invitations waiting? What tasks are open? List invitations, list tasks
What does my signature say? Is my out-of-office on? Email signature, out-of-office status

Answers about your mail come from what the tools read in that turn. If a tool fails or returns nothing, the chat says so instead of answering from memory. Language models can still misread a message, so check anything important, such as an amount or a date, in the email itself.

  • Search inside the body of emails. Search covers sender, recipients and subject.
  • Read PDFs or other attachments that are not text.
  • Send, save drafts, reply, forward, move, mark, restore or delete mail.
  • Create or change calendar events, accept or decline invitations, edit contacts, or manage tags and mail rules.
  • Delete anything permanently.

For those, use XgenPlus Webmail, or AI Inbox for drafting replies.

What Limit
Tool calls in one answer 12
Time for one tool call 20 seconds
Time for all tool calls in one answer 45 seconds
Text one tool result may return to the chat 20,000 characters
Text all tool results of one answer may return 40,000 characters
Tools that can be on, across connectors 60

Message lists, searches and contact lookups return at most 20 items at a time, a calendar list up to 50 events, and a conversation up to 10 messages. XgenPlus has its own limits for each mailbox, shared by all of that mailbox’s agents. When one is reached, the card says Limit reached. and the chat tells you to try again later.

Message What it means and what to do
Needs a new sign-in. Reconnect it in Settings. XgenPlus refused the token. In XgenPlus Webmail check that the agent is not paused and has Login ticked, then use Change token
Too many failed sign-ins for this mailbox. Wait the number of minutes shown, then check the token
The account the connector reports is not the one you entered. The token belongs to another mailbox than the one XgenPlus reported. Copy the token again from the right agent in Webmail
Limit reached. A limit of XgenPlus or ZenithAI was reached. Try again in a few minutes
The account does not allow a tool The agent lacks a permission. Tick it in XgenPlus Webmail
XgenPlus MCP is not enabled for your mail domain yet. Contact XgenPlus support
Connecting is not possible yet: the server’s connector key is missing. Tell your administrator
  • Mail the chat reads is processed by ZenithAI’s own models on your organisation’s ZenithAI server. Answers are kept in your chat history like any chat.
  • ZenithAI keeps no copy of your mailbox for this connector. It reads on request. What a tool returns appears in your chat, like any other answer.
  • The token is stored encrypted. The server’s record of connector calls holds which tool ran and when, not the text of your mail.
  • Disconnect deletes the token from ZenithAI. To cut access at XgenPlus as well, Pause or Delete the agent in XgenPlus Webmail under Settings › Security › AI Agents (MCP). It takes effect in about 10 seconds.

If your XgenPlus mailbox is a domain administrator mailbox, and the agent does not have Send & Save, the tools in the Domain admin group can be switched on. For any other mailbox the group shows as one line, Needs a domain admin mailbox, on an agent without Send & Save. Its 12 read-only tools let the chat look up users in your domain: details, mailbox space, limits, account and domain expiry, aliases, POP and IMAP services, mailing lists and their members, a domain summary and which users have agent passwords. XgenPlus refuses these tools for every other mailbox.

The XgenPlus Mail card is on the Admin page in Settings, and only administrators see it.

Common questions

What is the XgenPlus Mail connector in ZenithAI?

It is an MCP connector that lets a ZenithAI chat read your XgenPlus mailbox. You connect once in Settings with a token from XgenPlus Webmail, then attach XgenPlus Mail to a chat. The chat can look up your mail, contacts and calendar, and answer from what it reads.

Can the XgenPlus Mail connector send, delete or change my email?

No. In ZenithAI chat it is read only. It cannot send mail, save drafts, move, mark or delete messages, or change your calendar or contacts. The chat label says it can read, never send or change.

How do I get the token to connect XgenPlus Mail?

Create an agent password in XgenPlus Webmail under Settings, Security, AI Agents (MCP). Webmail shows a ready-made token for the agent. Copy it and paste it into ZenithAI under Settings, MCP Connectors. Treat it like a password.

How is the XgenPlus Mail connector different from AI Inbox?

AI Inbox keeps a copy of your mail on your server, sorts it into folders and drafts replies you send. The XgenPlus Mail connector keeps no mailbox copy. It reads mail on request during a chat, with an XgenPlus agent token, and never sends.

Why is XgenPlus Mail greyed out in the attach menu of my chat?

The menu says why. Usual reasons are that you have not connected it in Settings yet, no read tools are switched on, the token needs reconnecting, a workspace is chosen for the chat, or the chat holds private documents without Internet turned on for them.

Which ZenithAI tiers use the XgenPlus Mail connector?

A chat with XgenPlus Mail attached answers with Smart or Genius. If the chat was on a lower tier, the answer uses Smart and a note says so. Web search is off, and a message with attached files does not use the connector.

Does ZenithAI store my XgenPlus token?

Yes, so the chat can read your mail for you. The token is stored encrypted on your organisation's ZenithAI server. Disconnect deletes it together with your tool settings. To stop access at XgenPlus too, pause or delete the agent in XgenPlus Webmail.

Why does the chat say my XgenPlus Mail sign-in needs renewing?

XgenPlus refused the token. The agent may be paused, may have Login unticked, or its password may have been reset. Check the agent in XgenPlus Webmail, then use Change token in Settings, MCP Connectors.
